Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located in the Xiukang Village of the Lazi County, Tibet. It was named by Sheng Huaibin in 1984. [NOTE: In this same Lazi and Zhongba region, the Triassic Lexicon also has a Xiukang Fm, which is 200 m of limestone and shale, named by Yin Jixiang in 1983; and currently assigned as early Middle Triassic. Therefore, until this potential mis-dating (?) is resolved, then the Triassic one is given a qualifier-suffix in this Lexicon entry = XiukangTri Fm.]


Lithology and Thickness

Limestone. Composed of light-grey to dark-grey and black medium- and thick-bedded massive limestones, dolomitic limestones and brick-red and fresh grey thin- and medium-bedded bioclastic marls, with a thickness of 200 m.

Lower contact

Unclear contact relationship with the underlying strata. Possible next-older regional unit (or coeval) is the Lancuo Fm

Upper contact

Unclear contact relationship with the overlying strata. Next younger regional unit is the Gangjiu Limestone Fm

Regional extent

Distributed in the Lazi County area, Tibet.
